Pirates Tickets Guide: Best Beers at PNC Park

January 24, 2014

When you have Pittsburgh Pirates tickets, you want to make the most of your day at PNC Park. Luckily, the baseball field has plenty of craft beers that will put you in the right mood. When in doubt, try these concession stands for some of the tastiest brews in town.

Budweiser Bowtie Bar

With a name like Budweiser Bowtie Bar, you probably expect cheap, domestic swill (perhaps served in nice glasses, but cheap beer nonetheless). There’s nothing wrong with a cold Bud during a game, but sometimes you crave something with a little more flavor.

That’s where the Budweiser Bowtie Bar will surprise you. It regularly has excellent beers on tap, including:

  • Stella Artois
  • Brooklyn Lager
  • Harpoon IPA
  • Magic Hat No. 9

Of course, the bar also pours Shock Top, Budweiser’s very own attempt to appease the craft brew crowd.

You can find this expansive bar at the top of Section One. Grab a beer and head back to your seat, or spend some time hanging out in the lounge.

Beers of the Burgh

Here’s an appropriately named beer bar, also located in Section One, that serves an even wider selection of craft on draught. Expect to enjoy delicious brews such as:

  • Church Brew Works Celestial Gold
  • Church Brew Works Pious Monk Dunkel
  • Victory Hop Devil
  • Pen Pilsner
  • Penn Allegheny Pale Ale

Obviously this PNC Park bar isn’t fooling around. That’s a better selection than you’ll find at many of the city’s watering holes. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy these craft delights while watching the Pirates.

Fans of beer and the pirates who haven’t visited other ballparks probably don’t know how good they have it.

Pub 475

Pub 475 has a beer selection that will appeal to just about anyone’s taste. If you like beer, then you will like this spot. Come on, they call it a pub. What else would you expect?

Some of the beers frequently on tap at Pub 475 include:

  • Bells Oberon
  • Penn Allegheny Pale Ale
  • Sam Adams Summer Ale
  • Victory Hop Devil
  • Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA

Just don’t let the awesome beer selection distract you so much that you forget you’re there to watch the Pirates play.

Concession Stand Beers at PNC Park

You can even find great beer selections at smaller concession stands throughout PNC Park.

Section 116 has a beer booth that serves:

  • Anchor Steam
  • Flying Dog beers
  • Harpoon IPA
  • Brooklyn Lager
  • Church Brew Works Celestial Gold

Section 125 also has a fine selection with bottles of Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA and Erie Railbender.

All of the beers at concession stands come in bottles. If you really need a draught pour, then you’ll have to walk over to one of the bigger bars.

What’s your favorite place to grab a craft beer while watching the Pittsburgh Pirates play at PNC Park? Does the park’s excellent beer selection encourage you to buy drinks during the game, or do you prefer stopping at a nearby bar beforehand?
